How PPP Loans Embody Dysfunctional Government
A crisis often sparks a call for quick and decisive action. Unfortunately, quick and decisive action by government frequently creates opportunities for dysfunction, as the normal protocols and oversight may take a back seat to speed of response. The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was a rapid reaction to the extreme disruption to business during the pandemic response. The findings show more than $272 million was given to former employers and clients of at least 197 political appointees, entities that now have substantial influence in the current Administration.The hard data leaves the American public to wonder – have we just witnessed another instance of government dysfunction rewarding powerful insiders?
